We welcome the new Major 4×4 Prado

After the heartache of losing the original Major 4×4 Prado 120, we’ve gone and bought ourselves a new Prado. Today, I introduce the new Major 4×4 Prado 150.

We’ve upgraded not only in models, but in specs (factory and aftermarket) as well. The new Prado is a 2010 model, which is around 5 years newer than the old Prado. We’ve also jumped from the old one being a GXL to the new one being a VX. Anyone that knows Prados will know that this is a big step up in the little gadgets that you get from the factory. It’s the small things like heated leather seats, automatic wipers and headlights that make it a little more “special”. For getting offroad, there’s also the DAC (decline assent control), and switches for locking the centre diff and for low-range instead of the gear stick in the old one.

With the aftermarket gear, it’s got a lot, but it’s not finished yet (who’s 4WD ever is?). It’s got an ARB winch bar with front rated recovery points, dual batteries with Piranha management, Black Widow drawers in the back, Rhino Rack cross-bars, and a rear E-Locker (score!).

What we have been able to do so far was set up the basic Anderson plug in the back for our new 55L Glacio car fridge held down with our 1.0m Fasty Straps cam buckle tie downs. That set up performed flawlessly over our first trip away over the Easter long weekend, and we’re looking forward to having along on all of our adventures in the future.

The plans for what we are going to do next will take some time because even we can’t get everything that we want straight away! Future plans are:

  • More power sockets in the back, and more variety (12V plugs, Anderson, etc)
  • New roof rack
  • Solar panel permanently mounted to the roof rack
  • 2.5 x 3.0m awning
  • LED awning lighting
  • LED light bar on the roof rack
  • LED spotlights on the bullbar
  • LED rear work lights
  • What ever else I can dream up along the way!

With the new rig up and running now, we’re looking forward to getting out on the tracks to see just how well the new girl goes in the loose stuff. As always, if anyone knows any good spots around Brisbane, or wants to come for a day out, just let us know and we’ll see what we can organise.
